The Greenville Trash-off was a Huge Sucess

Fifty-four volunteers met at Westview United Methodist Church for registration and a light breakfast before going out to areas in our city that were covered in trash and debris. Several tons of trash were bagged.  Everything from plastic water bottles to wrecked shopping carts was found lying along side the highways and byways of Greenville.

Keep Greenville Beautiful Director, Deanna Shultz Lowe said at the Monday board meeting, “the cold weather on Saturday had an impact on the turnout, but said she was happy about the trash that is no longer blowing around in the city’s streets and parks.

“We collected 71 bags in total,” Lowe said. “And we found a shopping cart, a tire, a dead possum and a dead rat.” There was no mention of a dead skunk in the middle of the road.

The Keep Greenville Beautiful Foundation had help from the Greenville HS Navy Jr. ROTC, several church groups, board members of Keep Greenville Beautiful and a host of others.  The event was over by 12 noon and the teams disbursed to other activities.
