The Air Force Turns Seventy-one

Courageous Airmen have refined the Air Force mission to Fly, Fight, and Win through their blood and sacrifice since 1947. The Air Force is the foundation for multi-service, interagency and coalition operations. The Air Force provides the joint team the ability and freedom to fight in the air, on the ground, and at sea.

From its humble beginning just two years after World War II and before Korea, the Air Force advanced from piston-driven aircraft to the jet age. Korea and Vietnam further honed the fighting ability of the force. The C-17 has replaced the old C-124 Globemaster that MSgt Roy Ericson of Quinlan crewed and the C-141 that MSgt Satterwhite of Greenville maintained around the world. Happy 70th birthday, United States Air Force.
