Hot, moderate wind, dry grass and brush provided the fuel for a stubborn fire in Quinlan. Almost every unit in the county was represented. The Quinlan Volunteer Fire Department was called out Wednesday evening for smoldering hay bales. The fire was declared out around ten o’clock that night.
The fire rekindled Thursday afternoon and quickly became a 4-alarm fire. Fire departments from as far away as Ft. Worth were called in to battle a particularly stubborn fire Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Highway 276 and FM 751. Homes on Crestview Drive were evacuated. Quick action by fire fighters saved the homes.
The fire was declared under control around six o’clock Thursday evening. Some units remained on scene to carry out mop up operations. Hunt County remains under a burn ban.
Please do not burn construction residue, tires, furniture, paint and other flammable solvents. One person was arrested yesterday by the Fire Marshall for violating the burn ban and burning prohibited items.
