Yesterday afternoon, during the lunchtime hour, my family and I had the opportunity to visit the new Petco store at the Promenade, 6834 Wesley Street. Needless to say, I was extremely impressed.
There’s a wide assortment of products and services at Petco. They have brands and varieties of pet foods and pet treats which you cannot find anywhere else, and all at competitive prices. They have a display at the front of the store which has dog biscuits, dog cookies, and other treats which your canine companion will find irresistible. You can also find collars, leashes, and play toys, some of which are cheaper than you can find at the supermarkets and such.
The thing that attracts the most attention, however, are the pets available for adoption in store. These range from fish and marine animals, to rodents such as gerbils, hampsters, and Guinea pigs, to lizards such as iguanas, chameleons and geckos, and birds such as parakeets, cockatiels and more. To adopt a parakeet, it only costs $29.99, which is a fairly reasonable price.
The fish tanks contained such species as clown fish, hermit crabs, and more. My partner, Sheila, got excited when she saw a clown fish that looked like Memo and a blue fish that looked like Dory. If you’ve seen the popular Disney/Pixar movie, Finding Nemo, then you will understand what I mean.
The thing that caught my attention most was this beautiful white/grey tabby, named Cleo, who was as playful and as loving as she can be. I wish I could have brought her home; but, with the number of cats around our household, it wouldn’t have been a good idea. All animals receive vaccinations and medical care from some of Greenville’s finest veterinarians, such as Turtle Creek Veterinary and Greenville Animal Hospital.
Unfortunately, there was one problem with our experience. My daughter, Leslie, didn’t want to leave. If she had her way, she’d spend the night with all the animals.
Petco’s hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays and 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sundays. They also offer grooming and positive training services, both at reasonable prices; and every Saturday, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., they have a “Meet the Critters” event, where the focus is on pet adoption.
