“Once in a Blue Moon”

Don’t miss out on a gorgeous full moon tonight because the blue moon could be red!
It’s a special time. The term Blue Moon refers to the second full moon in a given month.
This only happens every 2.7 years.
It doesn’t actually mean that the moon is going to be blue, however, there have been times that it has had an indigo appearance. Actually,
it’s a good thing when it is just the normal brilliance of a natural full moon. Back in 1883, after the Indonesian volcano Krakatoa exploded with the force of a 100 megaton nuclear bomb, people did get to see a blue moon every night for quite some time. It was caused by the smoke and ash that were scattered in the air.
But, according to NASA, when the moon is hanging low, it looks red and they are forecasting that could happen tonight.
The term was believed to have been first used by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, Henry VIII’s advisor in the 16th century.
At that time, the idea of a blue moon meant as an inconceivable event. Then in the 1700’s, it evolved to mean “never”.
As ABCnews.com says.. Go out and celebrate by doing something you only do “once in a blue moon.” You have a good excuse!
