Dallas Police Officer Rogelio Santander interned with the Commerce Police Department prior to enrolling in the Criminal Justice School at Texas A&M- Commerce. Eventually, he became a Dallas police officer three years ago. The twenty-seven-year-old officer is a three year veteran of the Dallas department before his life was cut short by a criminal accused of shop lifting at a Home Depot in Northeast Dallas.
Officer Santander was remembered as a person that brought sunlight, joy and laughter to even the most serious situation.
Dr. Ray Keck, President of the Commerce University said, “All of us at Rogelio Santander’s University are devastated by this terrible loss. Rogelio chose to major in Criminal Justice and was engaged in helping maintain a safe life for us all.
To lose his own young life in the line of duty is a tragedy. Our hearts and prayers go out to Rogelio’s family and his friends. Our flags on the campus at Texas A&M-Commerce are at half-staff in Rogelio’s honor”.
