Lois Laverne Langley was born on February 24, 1930 to Vernon Cashman and Leona Callie (Boutwell) Jenkins in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith.
Her early childhood was spent in Dallas, though in her teens she decided to live with her grandparents, Riley E. and Annie Mae Boutwell who were longtime residents of Wolfe City, and she attended Wolfe City High School.
She married Luther W. Langley in July of 1948. They lived in Dallas until they retired in 1985 when they moved to Tool, Texas. Laverne, a big Elvis fan, was happy to have seen him perform in concert. She was an early member of the James Wages fan club; he is an Elvis tribute artist. She was also an avid fan of the local performer David Allen.
As long as her health permitted, she enjoyed exploring small antique shops, going to garage sales, dining out and especially shopping at Beall’s in Gun Barrel city with her sister, JoAnn Summerhill. Mama had a wonderful sense of humor and made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed watching the bluebirds and cardinals nest in her front yard.
We loved her very much and will miss her. We know that Heaven is now her eternal home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther W. Langley in 1997, an infant daughter, Barbara in 1949, her parents and grandparents.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Payne, three sons Hariel and wife Mary, Eddie and wife Carol, and Jerry Langley. Grandchildren Christopher Newsome and wife Robin and Jennifer Langley; great-granddaughter Katelynn Newsome and two great-great-grandchildren – Logan and Arabelle; Sisters JoAnn Summerhill, Arlene Marshall, and Carolyn Downs as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
