First responders are at the scene of a single vehicle crash and fire involving a diesel tanker on Highways 19/24 at the Hopkins-Delta County line. Delta County authorities say the crash occurred at about 4:35 pm and was caused by a blown tire. The driver made it out of the vehicle safely and was not injured. The tanker was loaded with unleaded gasoline.
The on-scene commander called for support from Hunt County and requested L3 Communication’s Aircraft-Rescue Fire Fighting vehicle. This vehicle can carry foam and water and is ideal for fighting a gasoline or jet fuel fire. Texas Department of Safety vehicles escorted the truck east along Interstate 30 to the Highway 19 out of Sulphur Springs. The fire is located near the communities of Cooper and Tira, Texas in Delta County.
A HAZMAT crew is on the scene for cleanup and remediation.
