The most common threat to our home is burglary. According to statistics a burglary occurs every 15.4 seconds in the United States. Of course this is a nationwide average and not nearly the case in Hunt County. However Greenville Police Department has issued a press release urging residents to close their garage doors. Over the past 3 months the GPD has investigated several burglaries in the southern portions of Greenville where suspect(s) had entered through open garage doors.
The official press release:
SHUT GARAGE DOORS TO KEEP OUT THIEVES
Greenville Police Warn Against Area Garage Burglaries
GREENVILLE – The Greenville Police Department is urging residents to shut garage doors. An open door is an invitation to thieves. Many of us lock our front and back doors as a matter of habit, but think nothing of leaving the largest door of the home wide open.
Over the past three months the Greenville Police Department has investigated several burglaries at homes in the southern portions of Greenville. Each of these burglaries involved suspect(s) entering garages that had been left open and stealing items such as tools.
GPD officers encourage residents to keep doors closed to prevent similar thefts and report any suspicious individuals in or around open garages. Anyone with information regarding such suspicious activity should contact GPD at 903-457-2900.
