John L. Horn Named Worthy Citizen for 2018

Byron Taylor, President, and CEO of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce said, “This may be the 99th Banquet to name Hunt County’s Worthy Citizen of the year.” Jack Finney formally presented the sterling silver trophy in 1947. The Herald-Banner in an article dated December 2016 stated, “79-names of worthy citizens are engraved on the trophy. Five people were named Worthy Citizens one year, one Worthy Citizen was named posthumously, and married couples have been named Worthy Citizens on multiple occasions.”

Greenville Chamber of Commerce and the Greenville Board of Development
sponsored the 2019 Annual Banquet featuring Dr. Jon’s Comedy Hypnosis-“Laughter
truly is the world’s greatest medicine!” 
Also, the Ambassador and Board Member of the Year was presented, as well
as, Passing of the Gavels, Recognition of Board Members, Community Investment
Awards and the 2018 Worthy Citizen of the Year will be announced!

year’s theme was Up, Up and Away. The formal banquet was held at Innovation
First International’s (IFI) event center located on the John L. Horn Parkway
near the intersection of FM 1570 and I-30 East. A hot air balloon sponsored by
Dinner Partner RE/MAX 3D Real Estate was ready for launch in the IFI Parking

and state movers, shakers, politicians, business persons, and local raconteurs
greeted each other before the dinner began. Dinner was served, and Dr. Jon
started his comedy routine. Sovay Composite Materials and Parts Master garnered
the Community Investment reward. Then the Citizen of Worth was named. The late
Judge John L. Horn was named Citizen of the year for 2018 and Lifetime
Achievement Award. John Horn is the second citizen to be awarded posthumously.
