I want to take this opportunity to inform the great citizens of Hunt County that I have made the decision to alter the decals on our patrol vehicles. This change is a simple one in the design but the most important of all, since we have added “In God We Trust” to our patrol vehicles.

I realize that this may not be a popular decision in this day and time of “political correctness” but perhaps being politically correct is what has happened in this country.

As a Country we have moved away from our basic principles of what we once stood for and that was trusting in God. If you question you can prove it to yourself by simply talking out any denomination of U.S. currency out of your pocket and looking at it.

As Sheriff of Hunt County I made the decision to put “In God We Trust” on our vehicles for a very simple reason, our men and women who serve our County know that each and every day they put the uniform on and report to duty could be their last and it is “In God we Trust” to watch over us on duty and to keep us safe and if it is God’s will that we make the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community we trust in God to watch over our families.

  1. Sheriff Randy Meeks has guaranteed that his county will be sued by the Freedom From Religion Foundation and Americans United for Separation of Church and State – for illegally placing decals on police cars that endorse a specific religion.

The tax-payers in this county should take notice that their Sheriff is wasting their tax dollars to make a point. The county will lose the legal fight, and he knows it.

The county Administrator of Houston County, Texas Bill Dempsey stated the following about the lawsuit filed by the Americans United for Separation of Church and State against his county for decals placed on police cars:

“Of course neither the commission nor anyone here supports that request, however we contacted our liability insurance carrier and their attorneys said, if we take this to court, they said we’re going to lose,” Dempsey said. “The county would be looking at hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal expenses.”

Sheriff Randy Meeks is wasting the citizens of Hunt County’s money and worse he knows it. His arrogant support of right-wing politics and religion is now being forced on all residents of Hunt County whether they agree with it or not. Sheriff Meeks is knowingly breaking the law, and expects the taxpayers to foot the bill.
