Greenville Fire Fighters in South Texas

greenvilleforeamdrescueGREENVILLE—Greenville Fire-Rescue has sent one unit to Bastrop County as part of a regional strike force team to combat wildfires in the southern Texas area.
Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) was activated just before 1 p.m., today, Thursday, October 15, 2015, to assists with large scale wild land fires that are devastating areas throughout the State of Texas.
A regional strike force team consisting of four Dallas Fire-Rescue units and one Greenville Fire-Rescue unit has been deployed to assist with the Hidden Pines Fire in Bastrop County.
The five engine, twenty person strike force team is expected to arrive in Bastrop at approximately 8 p.m. this evening.
The Hidden Pines fire has already burned 4,200 acres, destroying nine homes and necessitating the evacuation of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Research Center at Science Park due to heavy smoke. At the point of the TIFMAS activation, this fire was only approximately 15 percent contained.
