Fred Alvin Ward of Greenville, formerly from Mesquite, was born on December 6, 1929, to Fred E. and Thelma Lee Smith Ward in Barry, TX and passed away on August 24, 2015, at 85 yrs. in Sulphur Springs, TX.
He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1948. After his family moved to Dallas in 1949, he worked at Browns Ice Cream Co. riding his bicycle to work. He was drafted into the army in 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict.
After his discharge in 1953, he attended Arlington State College and worked full time at Chance Vought Aircraft. His dream was to become an architect. He followed the works of Frank Lloyd Wright and had drawn his own house plans.
He married Glenda Sue Dinsmore on June 11, 1959. He went to work for the US Postal Service, retiring from the Casa View Station after 33 yrs.
He was a dedicated church member and sang in the choirs at Heights View BC, Grace Temple BC Dallas, and FBC of Rosehill Garland. He and Glenda worked with the youth, also. He was a member of Highland Terrace BC, Greenville, before his health failed.
He enjoyed playing practical jokes, bowling, reading science fiction and western novels, and playing 42.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his son David Ward, brother Kenneth Ward and wife Dorothy, sister-in-law Doris Ward, brother-in-law Gerald Mooney and nephew Johnny Mooney.
Surviving are his wife, his daughters Donna Ward and Rebekah (Zane) Marek, his grandchildren Carter and Samuel Marek, Lauren (Hector) Sanchez, and Jonathan Ward, several great-grandchildren, brother Bobby and sister Jewell Mooney, as well as many nieces and nephews.
His family wishes to thank the Sunny Springs Nursing and Rehab facility staff for the loving care he received.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home in Wolfe City, Texas.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 11:30 A.M. at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M. Thursday, August 27, 2015 at First Baptist Church Greenville in Greenville, Texas.
