Four smokers provided by Farmers Electric Co-op were smoking up barbecue treats for the public at the Cash Volunteer Fire Department this morning. Meal service consisting of ribs, brisket, sausage, sides, fixings and desert will begin at five PM and continue until nine PM at the department located about seven miles south of Greenville on Texas Highway 34 South. Saturday will see lunch and supper served. Just drive past Reams Market and look for the crowd on the left!
The department has several fund raisers per year to help fund operations. The need is especially critical at this time as the department needed to replace the fire engine that was destroyed last December near Boles Home in a tragic early morning collision.
The department found a used 2009 Seagrave pumper in Christiana, Delaware. The board of directors negotiated a price and arranged the purchase. It was transported back to Hunt County. The “new” engine will be on display tonight. Saturday will see lunch and supper served. Many local residents helped with the purchase along with grants from the county, Texas Division of Forestry, Innovation First International, and L-3.
