Promised rain came to Greenville just as Halloween on the Square started. Kids (and their parents) were in full costume for the trick or treat gift bags passed out by city offices, agencies, and merchants. The Blandells played rock and roll that this generation’s grandparents danced to. Many vendors and musicians moved into the dry confines of the Exchange Building parking garage during the heavier rains. The line for goodies started at the courthouse and wound its way down and across Stonewall Street to the parking garage.
Detours were in place to funnel traffic around the square in both northbound and southbound directions. The Greenville Police Department, Police Explorer scouts, the Citizens Police Academy, Hunt County Sheriff, and Greenville Fire and Rescue did a magnificent job of traffic control.
