The City of Greenville is accepting applications from interested organizations requesting funding for activities supported by the Municipal Hotel Occupancy Tax for the 2015-2016 season. These funds are used by organizations to promote tourism and by various hotels for conventions taking place in the city. Some examples are the Kenneth Threadgill Concert Series, Rally ‘Round Greenville and bicycle races that take place once or twice per year.
Funds from the Hotel Occupancy Tax are limited to Convention and Visitor Information Centers. These funds can be used to register convention delegates as well as promote tourism. Historical restoration and preservation of Greenville buildings are eligible if they promote tourism. The tax may also fund transportation systems to take tourist from hotels to their destination during a convention for instance.
Organizations applying for these funds should ensure that their program increases hotel occupancy and promotes tourism within the city. Applications are available at City Hall on Washington Street in the Municipal Building.
