Progress is being seen everyday regarding the airport expansion plans according to Greenville Mayor, David Dreiling, and Airport Manager, Ty Helton.
L-3 Mission Integration and Communications signed a long term lease for the facility on October 8, 2013. The lease included an additional 55 acres of land at the airport. In order to acquire the added land, current hangers and facilities will have to be moved south of their current locations. This includes a new/refurbished base of operations for the helicopter ambulance service known as Air Evac 67, relocating seven existing structures, building a new taxiway, new access road from FM 2101, construct a new aircraft wash facility and fuel storage farm.
There is an issue of wetlands and drainage that will have to be overcome. The firm of H. W. Lochner, Inc. of Dallas has contacted the Army Corp of Engineers and EPA in preparation of starting Phase I later this year. Many questions from pilots and tenants based at the airport were ask of the mayor and engineers from the Lochner corporation.
